Thrive And Survive ANYWAY!!

Do we live to eat or do we eat to live? And who is responsible for preventing and maintaining our health? The government, the pharmaceutical industry, scientists, doctors – WHO? In these uncertain times of ‘health care reform’ there is little doubt that this country’s health care is in need of a total revamp.  But who controls what needs to be changed in that medical-pharmaceutical-health insurance system?

Individuals all over this country (the ‘little’ people) have a wonderful opportunity to turn that behemoth upside down and dismantle it by taking charge of their own health, and the more we know the better decisions we can make to protect ourselves. While the following information is not well known, it is extremely vital.
This article is written with the intention of inspiring you the reader to take the time to learn some little known information as to one of the most overlooked causes of disease in the world and how to take some practical and inexpensive steps to protect yourself on a daily basis.

In a television show interview “Know The Cause” hosted by Doug Kaufmann which aired February February 4th 2010, Ph.D. Pharmacist and military veteran Dr. Roby Mitchell said that purple foods like grapes, cranberries, blood oranges, purple cabbages, plums, and egg plants have a high amount of anti-fungal agents in them because these plants naturally try to survive in a high bacteria – high fungus environment.

Dr. Mitchell stated that for people who have cancer, the purple cabbage and the cranberry are the plants they want to juice because they have more of these anti-fungal properties than most other plants. He went on to say that they make a dramatic improvement in the reduction of fungal cells in the body and was careful to point out that we will never be able to totally rid our inward or outward environment of fungus because God placed fungus in the earth just like He placed flies, rats, vultures and mosquitoes in the earth to be “The Clean-Up Crew.”

In essence, pathogenic cells like bacteria, viruses and fungi are always going to be in our bodies at some level, but good health means that we maintain the right balance of normal cells versus pathogenic/parasitic organisms.  When we do what’s right for our bodies, our bodies are then ABLE to function better.  Who wouldn’t want that?

This doctor is one of many who outline what it means to “eat right.” Pathogens like harmful bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites typically thrive in a low oxygen/high acid environment.  Regular physical exercise will increase oxygen intake and regular consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables are necessary to make the body more alkaline.

Roman Oncologist Dr. Tulio Simoncini on his website wrote an article entitled: “Bicarbonate Increases Tumor pH and Inhibits Spontaneous Metastases.”  In this article, he describes the successful results of his cancer treatments.  His method of spraying a baking soda and water solution at the site of the tumor through a catheter stops cancer dead in it’s tracks by increasing alkalinity in the body.

In his book, “Cancer Is A Fungus” and on Doug Kaufmann’s TV show “Know The Cause” Dr. Simoncini contends that the cancer is not black as it shows up on x-rays, but it is white and he refers to it as an overgrowth of “candida albicans.”

In short, he says that cancer/fungus is able to proliferate in the body if the body is excessively acidic, that cancer can’t survive in a high alkaline environment, and this is a major reason why the tumors dissolve in just a matter of a few days with repeated procedures of bisodium carbonate exposure which actually breaks down the outer layer of the tumor and disintegrates it.

Considering the above, it only makes sense for people to eat fewer foods that promote acidity like high glycemic starchy vegetables & fruits, grains that are commonly contaminated with mycotoxins (fungal poisons) and sugars which feed fungus, and to eat more foods known to increase alkalinity like vegetables.  These are the elements of Doug Kaufmann’s Phase One diet that targets the starvation of fungus in the body.
Most all doctors agree that it takes 4-6 servings of fresh fruits and vegetables per day to stave off cancer, and apparently these are some of the reasons why this dietary strategy to prevent cancer works.

In his ongoing campaign to expose fungus as the most overlooked cause of disease in the world, on the same “Know The Cause” episode mentioned above, in his “News & Views” segment Mr.Kaufmann points out that various news sources cite diseases like cancer, lupus, cystic fibrosis and even balding as having the commonality of breaks in the DNA strands of certain cells and that the cause of those breaks needs further scrutiny.

Kaufmann then read an article regarding deoxynivalenol-induced cell damage.  According to the scientific reports, deoxynivalenol is also known as vomitoxin; a mycotoxin or by-product of fungus commonly found in cereals, wheat, barley, corn, and rice.  When given the environment of heat, warmth and moisture fungus grows in our bodies and the poisons they produce have been proven to break DNA strands in many different cells in the body.

Antibiotics are mycotoxins.  Brewer’s yeast and alcohol itself are mycotoxins, and there are many studies to suggest that alcohol and the occurance of breast cancer and other cancers are intimately connected. Can we put two and two together?

In their book “The Fungal Link To Diabetes” Doug Kaufmann and Dr. David Holland outline why they believe fungus is the cause of diabetes and the complications associated with it such as atherosclerosis, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetic neuropathy and much, much more.

How is fungus entering our bodies?  Through the air we breathe, contaminated foods we eat – sometimes unknowingly, and especially through antibiotics.  Yes, antibiotics save lives by stopping bacteria overgrowth, but now that this fungal metabolite has set up residence inside our bodies, now what?

A Discussion About The Underestimated And Devastating Effects Of Fungus In The Human Body Pt. III of III


This is the final of 3 segments that are designed to challenge the way people think about standard health care in America.  It is our sincerest hope that readers of this series find hope in new possibilities and increase their faith in God who is able and willing to help those who help themselves  when it comes to health care.

One of the most amazing discoveries in clinical nutrition today can be found in a little known natural supplement called beta glucan.  During an interview of the TV show “Know The Cause” Doug Kaufmann interviewed Frank Jordan who is president of the NSC Corporation.  Frank Jordan explained how his patented micronized version of beta glucan was shown in medical school studies to help the immune system recognize and attack fungal/cancer tumors in the body.

As Doug Kaufmann explains in his books, cancer is believed to be a fungal-human hybrid cell in which the DNA of the fungus unites with human DNA, and thus the human immune system has difficulty recognizing the tumor as a foreign invader as it continues to grow.

Mr. Jordan, who also believes cancer is a fungus said that this fungal-human hybrid cell forms a protective protein covering and that beta glucan strips away this disguise, thus allowing the immune system to activate.  Jordan also said that beta glucan enhances macrophage activity, and this gives our bodies the tools necessary to recognize, attack and carry away the invader.

Beta glucan is just one of many nutrients available to help boost the immune system and defeat cancer.  Many anti-fungals can be found in the vegetable gardens, kitchen cabinets and health food stores of America.  But one must be willing and open-minded enough to receive new information, and then apply it.

In September of 1999, about 10 years ago the Mayo Clinic announced that some 97% of all chronic sinusitis is due to fungus, but many well-meaning doctors continue to prescribe antibiotics (more fungus) to address symptoms and only make the condition worse.  This cycle can be stopped with a natural substance known as olive leaf extract which is documented to kill bacteria, viri, parasites and fungus.

The Seagate Company has an olive leaf extract nasal spray which I have tried, and found to be the most effective product I’ve ever used.  It put an almost immediate stop to my sinus problems, and I have not had any ongoing problems since. In addition,  just about every person I’ve ever referred this product to tells me the same.

My youngest daughter and my sister use olive leaf extract capsules to ward off flu and cold symptoms every time they feel something coming on.  Among many other things I do to stay healthy including exercise, I drink a mixture of olive oil and oregano oil (another natural yet potent anti-microbial) as well as consume a probiotic and liquid vitamin daily. I have noticed that my skin is smoother, toenail fungus and dandruff disappeared, acne disappeared, energy levels are higher and I very rarely get sick.

My son’s pediatrician prescribed antibiotics for various illnesses he had and we noticed an increase in the frequency of ear infections.  The more ear infections he got, the more antibiotics the doctor prescribed until we broke that cycle with Seagate’s olive leaf extract ear drop formula.

One time, my son developed thrush in his mouth which is a fungal condition, and the doctor prescribed Nystatin, an anti-fungal drug.  Shortly after his condition cleared up.  Not long after attending a new child care center, Little Daniel also developed a ringworm infection on his face and in his scalp.  His doctor prescribed a topical anti-fungal and a liquid oral anti-fungal named Griseofulvin to deal with what he believed was an internal systemic fungal condition.

When I researched the side effects of the Griseofulvin my son was taking, I discovered the same anti-fungal drug was being further researched by medical experts because it was shown to halt cancer production.
When I made this discovery for myself with a few simple mouse clicks and keystrokes, all of a sudden I could hear the voice of Doug Kaufmann pounding the point once again: “You and I are not scientists, but what does LOGIC tell you? If you swallow an anti-fungal drug and cancer doesn’t metastasize through your body, WHAT’S THE CAUSE OF CANCER?”

There’s absolutely no doubt in my mind that anti-fungal drugs and specific anti-fungal natural supplements are the wave of the future of health care.  Incidently, Mr. Kaufmann states that many of the statin drugs being used to lower cholesterol today were  used in times past to kill fungus. The question now is even though such news is generally not covered in mainstream media, who will believe and receive such life-saving information?

Who will believe that God wants His people to be healthy and to prosper in every area of life?  Who will believe that God designed the human body to heal itself? Who will believe that God created the human body from the dust of the earth, and that same human body needs substances from the same earth to promote and maintain good health?

Who will believe that FUNGUS and the toxic waste products they produce are main underlying causes of many illnesses and that tens of thousands of people who have tried it say an anti-fungal regimen enhances health?

Now that this information has come to your attention, you have been challenged to consider and investigate the possibilities.  The Good Lord says “My people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge.”  Unfortunately for some, such ignorance is willful thus leading to more unnecessary suffering and even death.

The time has come for God’s people to believe Him, believe the research, believe the testimony of so many who have had success in this regard.  Educate yourself, do the things that successful people are doing when it comes to natural health care and LIVE the abundant and prosperous life that Jesus promised.

A Discussion About The Underestimated And Devastating Effects Of Fungus In The Human Body Part 2 of 3

In our first segment, Americans and people all over the world were challenged to make a paradigm shift in the way health care is viewed at the personal individual level with the question “Who do we trust to heal us, Man or GOD?” He placed the responsibility of health care into our own hands, and on judgment day nobody else will be held accountable.

Many doctors believe the body heals itself under the right conditions, and certain ones believe God gave each of us the power to be healed not only spiritually, but practically as well.  These are the ones who outline specifically what it means to “eat right.” These certain medical doctors advocate the consumption of natural supplements known to boost immunity, natural antibiotics, probiotics (essential friendly intestinal bacteria), essential fatty acids, minerals, amino acids, multi-vitamins, and more on a regular basis to promote and maintain good health.

 
And when it comes to defeating cancer, more and more doctors are using ‘non-traditional’ methods that deserve attention and consideration. On Dr. Simoncini’s website, he says that cancer IS fungus and his videos document how he literally shrinks and dissolves cancer/fungal tumors by spraying a baking soda & water solution on them through a catheter repeatedly over a period of just a few days.  He says this method works because fungus can’t survive in a high alkaline environment, and it is used very effectively in acute cases.
By focusing on the foods that we eat, TV show host Doug Kaufmann who has written several books on the subject and also believes that cancer is fungus says that his Phase 1 diet creates a relatively high alkaline environment to make the the human body more pathogen resistant.  This particular diet focuses on avoiding certain foods which fungus is known to feed on such as high carbohydrate/high glycemic foods like starches, pastas, and especially processed white flour and sugars.
Mr. Kaufmann has many testimonials from people all over the country saying that the Phase 1 diet and anti-fungal supplementation regimen has completely reversed their cancer tumor markers, diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and a myriad of other health problems caused by fungus.
Due to his personal experience of having overcome a fungal infection he contracted while serving as a veteran in Viet Nam, and working with doctors who believe as he does for the past 37 years, Mr. Kaufmann puts the horse before the cart by properly educating us on the matter: obesity is not necessarily the cause of cancer, but rather cancer (which is a fungus) is the cause of obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and a whole slew of other ailments.
Backed by many doctors and medical science, Mr. Kaufmann reminds us that once on board, fungus is a very opportunistic and dominant parasite which causes it’s host to crave it’s favorite food: sugar.  How does fungus enter the human body?
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, fungus is ubiquitous (everywhere present); in the ground, in the air we breathe, and universally present in the air conditioning & heating systems of our homes and businesses – not to mention older buildings where roofs leak and flood damage has occurred.
And on his TV show “Know The Cause” which is found both on his website and on Christian television stations worldwide, Kaufmann almost daily and at least weekly quotes Dr. Ruth Edsel’s report in the Journal of American Medical Association (circa 2002) that the American food supply, namely the grain supply is “commonly contaminated” with fungal poisons (mycotoxins) because grains are typically stored in warm, sweaty silos: the ideal environment where fungus can grow.
During my own 3 month investigation of a systemic mold infestation story at Grambling State University’s main library in Louisiana, the laboratory results of a mold test kit purchased from a local hardware store confirmed the presence of penicillium and other fungi-offenders in the building’s HVAC system.  These air handlers are housed in the library’s basement where floods occur regularly due to ongoing ground water seepage through unsealed walls every time it rains for extensive periods.
After conducting some brief research on penicillium, we discovered it to be the fungus from which the antibiotic penicillin is created.  Antibiotics are another major conduit by which fungus is purposely and regularly consumed by unsuspecting patients who are seeking relief from bacterial and viral infections. Once fungus has done it’s job to kill bacteria inside the human body, it doesn’t just go away. Once on board in the human body fungus, just like in thousands of grain silos across the country, it has the ideal environment (warmth, moisture and a food supply) for it to grow.
Unfortunately, and some say by design most American doctors are not trained in the study of fungus (mycology) as major medical schools in this country don’t even offer such courses in their curriculum. And yet a vast majority of America’s doctors administer fungal metabolites in the form of antibiotics on a regular ongoing basis to treat human ailments, without a single clue that their patients are likely to experience side effects from the fungal metabolites their patients consumed.
Until these specific causes are acknowledged on a wide scale in mainstream media and by government health experts, we will continue to only treat symptoms and spiral downward health-wise.
In the meantime, there are many doctors out there who understand that among many factors, fungal infections and mycotoxins are a major underlying cause of human health problems. Even though they are often times ostracized and looked upon as quacks by the mainstream medical/pharmaceutical institution, a paradigm shift is occurring as more and more doctors, scientists and clinical nutritionists acknowledge truth that can no longer be ignored.

KNOW THE CAUSE! Is America’s most viewable televised daily health talk show! Through cable, satellite and independent TV station, the show can now be viewed in over 80,000,000 households…and growing. After having discovered the cause of his medical symptoms upon returning home form Vietnam in 1971, host Doug Kaufmann set out to prove that many Americans were suffering like he was, from food and fungal disorders. Physicians simply did not know that fungus and common foods caused such serious health threats 36 years ago. Unfortunately, the still do not today. For 27 years Doug worked with numerous physicians who obliged his efforts to see how widespread food and fungal diseases really were. When symptoms and diseases were of unknown origin, with the patients and doctors approval, Doug used an antifungal approach in an effort to try to discover the cause of their suffering. Time after time, the trio (physician, patient and Doug) was amazed at the results seen by simply using antifungal and dietary approaches. Whereas traditional medicine regards inflammation as the cause of cancer, diabetes and even heart disease, Doug Kaufmann asks, “what causes inflammation?” Could this same yeast that makes bread rise be intimately involved in the human disease process? Surely, physicians would not believe that yeast and fungi cause serious health threats, but careful examination of the scientific literature proves otherwise, as he has published.

One case in point is the phenomenon created by cholesterol lowering drugs called Statin drugs, currently the darlings of Wall Street. Doug Kaufmann teaches that before they were statin drugs, they were proven effective against fungus…..yes, statin drugs used to be antifungal drugs. BIOGRAPHY: Doug A. Kaufmann

While in college in 1968, Doug Kaufmann received a draft notice from the U.S. Army. In lieu of accepting the invitation, Kaufmann opted for enlistment in the U.S. Navy, a 4 year contract rather than the 2 year proposal from the Army, but perhaps a way to avoid the Vietnam War. This is historically recorded now as one of his early errors. His enlistment commenced on October 4, 1968 in San Diego Naval Training Center and ended about the same date in 1972. After graduation from Hospital Corps “A” School, Kaufmann worked in Respiratory Therapy and in the operating room at The San Diego Naval Hospital. He was ordered to Vietnam in 1970 and was attached to The Seventh Marine Division, where he was a field corpsman. Upon returning to the USA in 1971, he became ill. While working at USC Medical School, the mystery surrounding the illness would be unraveled, enabling full recovery for Kaufmann without the recommended prescriptions. Thirty-six years later, many thousands of loyal television viewers enjoy learning about this still relevant discovery and how it might impact their health. Much occurred in the early years that convinced Kaufmann that he needed to teach this lifesaving information to physicians. Few listened, so his plans changed. The new mission was to educate the consumers of healthcare…we, the people.

In 1987, Kaufmann relocated his family to Dallas Texas at the request of several physicians who were familiar with his discovery. A few years into this relocation, a local radio station requested that Kaufmann begin broadcasting his different approach to health on their station and offered free time each Saturday. This 30-minute show was quickly enhanced to 3 full hours as its popularity (YOUR HEALTH MATTERS) grew into several large markets. In 1998, a television network requested Kaufmann’s presence and his TV shows have grown in popularity ever since. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS?
I hear a lot about bacteria, but little about fungus. What are fungi, and how are the different from bacteria? 

Fungi are single-celled living organisms, and are more highly developed than bacteria and viruses. They vary from molds, mushrooms and tiny round yeast spores, to finger or string-like mycelial form. The number of species is estimated to be over 1 million, but the number implicated in causing human disease is on the order around 400 different species. Some fungi are dimorphic, or able to change forms, converting from the natural, environmental mold form, to the invasive round-cell tissue form. A “mycosis” (my-ko-sees) describes a fungal infection of either the skin or deeper tissues or organs in the body.
Fungi closely resemble humans and animals in their molecular processes, except that they have a rigid cell wall, and cannot produce their own energy like plants can. They therefore rely on other things as their food source, such an animal that has died in the forest. They are literally everywhere: the soil, the air, in certain foods, and even the water. Many fungi are normal inhabitants of the human body (e.g. the intestinal tract), and do not cause disease unless the “host” body becomes immuno-compromised. This is discussed above. The fungi can cause disease, then, by either directly invading the tissues or by producing toxic by-products called mycotoxins. Mycotoxins can cause harm even if the host person is healthy to begin with.

Bacteria, like fungi, are sometimes also normal inhabitants of the human body. However, their physiology is different; this is why different drugs are used to kill bacteria than those that are used to kill fungi (although sulfa drugs, for example, have both antibacterial and antifungal capabilities). There are harmless and “good” bacteria, and there are “bad” bacteria. Lactobacillus acidophilus is one of several good bacteria that inhabit the small and large intestines and produce chemicals that inhibit the growth of bad bacteria and keep yeast and fungal counts under control. For example, L. acidophilus produces chemicals that are toxic to the bacteria commonly known to cause “Montezuma’s revenge.” It is when these good bacteria succumb to antibiotics, or chemicals in food, or chlorinated water, that the normal balance is upset, and the “terrain” of the bowel is changed. Without the protective bacteria, yeast can freely proliferate; this is when normal becomes abnormal, and symptoms arise. Replacing the good bacteria and changing your diet to a Phase One Diet might make all of the difference in the world!

Why a Phase One Diet?
It is very well documented that fungi are parasites of man. They should not be inside the human body, but they have several portals of entry, including the skin, the lungs and even the food we eat! Certain fungi make a poisonous substance known as a “mycotoxin.” Mycotoxins are involved in human diseases, including but not limited to liver cancer. Avoidance is imperative, but once mycotoxin producing fungi are inside the human body, your doctor may offer a two fold approach to eliminating them; killing them with prescriptive or natural antifungals and starving them, but cutting off their primary food supply. Fungi, like many people, crave carbohydrates! That may be why so many people manifest with so many symptoms and diseases, yet doctors cannot accurately diagnose them. A fungal disease may be diagnosed as chronic sinusitis or high cholesterol, yet few physicians understand the fungus link to those health problems. Prescriptive medications control them, but never address the cause. Know that fungi must have carbohydrates in order to thrive inside your body, makes the Phase One Diet much easier to understand. Perhaps starving fungus would reverse the symptoms that contribute to so many health problems we Americans suffer from!

What foods are allowed on the Phase One Diet?
I vividly recall my early days on the then nameless, “horrible, rotten, restrictive diet.” Even though expert nutritionists cautioned me about eating the “too fattening” avocado and “cholesterol raising” eggs, I had learned that fungus disliked these foods and at the time, I just wanted to control this overgrowth of fungus that I thought I had. If these experts were correct, heck I could always run off my avocado induced weight and find an antidote for high cholesterol! Of course, 35 years later, we know that avocados and eggs are absolutely fine to eat in most instances. Many people on this diet find that their health elevates to a level where both they and their doctors are amazed at how good they feel! This can either be chalked up to food hypersensitivity or starving of the fungus that was responsible for the symptoms in the first place. Either way, many are living better because of this breakthrough approach to eating. In 2005, I wrote a recipe book entitled Eating Your Way to Good Health, that included recipes developed through the years that made this diet easier to follow. The book has been yet another hit because it enabled those who chose to make this diet more permanent a feast instead of a chore! 

I have learned that some people simply cannot afford the books with the diet in them and for this reason I have decided to simply publish the foods that are OK to eat on this diet in an effort to help everyone coming to our website: 

EGGS

Will I be on this diet forever?
It’s frightening when you look at the Phase One Diet at first. One consolation is that I lived this myself for years! I wouldn’t recommend it if I haven’t done it and experienced that amazing results myself! The answer to the question regarding “forever” is “no…unless you want or need to.” Usually, after the first two weeks, and depending on your progress and how closely you follow the program, we will begin adding foods back to your diet- i.e. a “Phase II” diet.

Remember, though, that to truly alter disease and improve your life permanently, it will take a lifestyle change, not just a 2-week program. Some people continue to follow a variation of the Phase One Diet indefinitely simply because they feel best eating that way. True health is not just a diet, a commitment to quit smoking or taking a pill. Rather lifestyle changes including diet and exercise may fulfill your quest for true health.

Won’t eating eggs, nuts and meat raise my cholesterol?
It’s a good question and one that I asked myself 35 years ago. As you have read, dietary rules have softened as common sense hardens. As a matter of fact, in my experience, cholesterol and triglycerides actually improve on this sort of diet. Over and over I have seen this, and, recently, studies have come out showing that eggs do not necessarily raise cholesterol after all, and eating nuts (not peanuts) can even decrease your risk of heart disease by up to 50%. Everybody is unique, but overall this diet is has repeatedly been shown to improve not only blood levels of cholesterol and triglycerides, but also disease symptoms in general. The public has been scared away from fats, and too often remove the beneficial fats from our diets. The only people that should be concerned with excessive cholesterol are those that have a genetic condition where the body cannot handle excessive cholesterol-probably less than 1% of the population.

How will I feel during this program?
Keep in mind the old saying, “No pain, no gain.” That is, if, at first, you feel worse, it may be a good sign. There is a phenomenon called the Herxheimer reaction, described first by Carl Herxheimer in the 1930’s. This is a reaction to the massive killing off of an organism, and the body’s subsequent reaction to this sudden load of toxins released in the blood stream. Other people have labeled this a “die-off” reaction.

Typically, the “die-off” reaction is characterized by flu-like aches, chills, sometimes-even fever, and an actual exacerbation or temporary worsening of symptoms. Recall that the skin is also an organ- with this in mind; we have seen outbreaks of rashes or worsening of rashes as the body begins to “clean house.”

How do you know this is not a reaction to something you are taking? If you are reacting to something, you will feel worse and worse, and whereas if you are going through this detox or “die-off”, you will feel better and better after the initial rough time. The initial rough time may last from one evening to several days, if you experience anything at all. In my experience, those illnesses with the longest duration and greatest severity often are the ones to produce the equivalent worse “die-off” reactions, but even this is not always predictable.
How do I know that this is a fungal problem?

There are fairly good blood tests that can detect the presence of antibodies to certain kinds of fungi that you may have been exposed to either recently or at some time in the past. The problem with these tests is that many of us have been exposed to different fungi; therefore, a positive test may or may not be relevant or helpful. Other tests such as blood cultures are less than perfect; many labs do not know how to culture for fungus adequately. The best, and least expensive, test is a trial of an antifungal program. If indeed you improve on this type of program, then retrospectively, you have a diagnosis. Our best clue as to whether you may have a fungal problem is your medical history. Talk to your doctors about implementing an antifungal program.

Will I have to do this for the rest of my life? Once I have a fungal problem, will I always have it?

This is a good question that is often brought up. The initial program will not have to be followed forever, but keep in mind that in order to avoid disease, a lifestyle change is necessary. One thing we know of: grains are a moldy food by the very nature that they are stored (and thus can potentially grow moldy). Thus, one can “tempt” symptoms to return by reverting to old lifestyle habits. What I try and do is provide you with the “tools” you need-the knowledge- to carry out your life with the intent on being in charge of your health, living a healthy life, and, if you do get sick, knowing what your body needs in order to get well, or better yet, what may have provoked or caused the illness. I can’t tell you how many times my favorite “goodie” provokes miserable symptoms a few hours or a day later! Certainly you can’t avoid all “goodies,” grains or inhaling molds forever, but you can know what to do to minimize symptoms.

Can this diet be dangerous for anyone?
Since the diet is high in proteins, one with advanced kidney disease should be very cautious on this diet, and should work closely with doctors. In fact, one with advanced kidney disease might even avoid it, since in this case the kidneys have trouble handling high loads of proteins in the diet. The diet, however, will not cause kidney disease in one with healthy kidneys- in fact; it may even prevent it according to numerous studies on atherosclerosis, the usual cause of kidney damage (A.V. Constantini 1994).

Also, those who are pregnant, breast feeding, or are in childhood years may not be suited to this type of diet due to the relative lack of carbohydrates. Those who exercise vigorously may also not do well on a diet that is severely restricted in carbohydrates. If you fit any of these categories, it should be discussed with the physician or nutritional counselor. 

Isn’t eating fat bad for you? Won’t I gain weight by eating fat?
There are good fats and bad fats: eating bad fats are bad and eating good fats is not bad. What are the bad fats? Well, margarine and vegetable oils used all day for deep-frying in restaurants are a couple examples of bad fats. Avocados, nuts (with the exception of peanuts), eggs, and meat are fine. We should note a disclaimer on meats, however: Meat from a cow that was fed moldy grains (likely very common) is not recommended. The fats of these meats contain mycotoxins from the moldy grain. This is the very reason why “meat” may contribute to cancer and heart disease: it is not the meat, but the toxins lacing the meat. (Argentineans consume more beef than anyone in the world, yet they have no heart disease or cancer as a result of this. This is because they let their cattle graze in the open field instead of feeding them moldy grain.) Grass fed meat, I believe, is best.

On the average, with a wide variation, people will lose around 5 pounds the first 2 weeks on this program. If you do not wish to lose weight, don’t worry- as grains are added back to diet, often your weight will return. If you wish to keep the weight off, stick more closely to a Phase One Diet.

Why Psyllium hulls?
Psyllium, being a non-digestible fiber, is one of the three things known to bind fungal poisons, or mycotoxins (the other two are charcoal and cholestyramine, a drug. A.V. Constantini, Fungal Bionics). Psyllium, as a fiber also regulates the bowels, relieving both constipation and diarrhea. It is imperative that, as you kill off fungus, it leaves the body via the bowels.
People with gut problems (constipation, diarrhea, gas, bloating, reflux, etc.) can almost be assured that they have an “inflamed” or leaky gut. Psyllium hulls greatly assist in “sealing up” the gut. Once the bowels are moving and the gut is sealed, one can absorb and assimilate nutrients from their food like they should.

NOTE: If you have high blood pressure, you should not take the Nature’s Sunshine brand of powdered psyllium hulls. This contains licorice, which can elevate blood pressure. The capsule form in this brand is fine to take. Also, if you have any form of intestinal obstruction, or have had surgery for intestinal obstruction, check with your physician before beginning psyllium or any other non-digestible fiber.

Are prescription antifungals safe?
The newer systemic, or bloodstream, antifungals are much safer than the older ones like Nizoral of Griseofulvin. Some of the newer ones include Diflucan, Lamisil, and Sporanox. The safety depends on both the length of time these are used and with which other medications they are taken. All of these antifungals are filtered through the liver, and anyone with known or suspected liver disease should be either very careful with these drugs or avoid them altogether. Also, if they are taken in large doses for a long period of time in anyone, the liver enzymes should be monitored (for example, every 3 months). The combination of these antifungals and certain antibiotics and antihistamines should be avoided; check with your physician or nurse if this might apply to you.

Nystatin is a “gut” antifungal. Only 1-3% of it is absorbed at all; the other 97-99% remains in the intestines all the way down and is excreted via the bowels. This medication has no known adverse reactions if taken with food. Sometimes, people refer to Nystatin as an antibiotic, when it is really a broad-spectrum antifungal. In part, it is an anti-“biotic,” since “bio” means living organism, and fungi certainly are living organisms!

What Is the Doug Kaufmann Phase One Diet?

The Doug Kaufmann Phase One Diet calls for eliminating sugar, grains, bread, pistachios and peanuts from your eating plan. Kaufmann's theory is that these foods feed fungus living in your body. What to Avoid

Low Carb Diets

This diet is similar to other low-carb eating plans. Cornerstones of such diets include focusing on good fats and low-glycemic index fruits and vegetables. Good fats include canola and olive oils as well as flax seeds, fish, macadamias, sesames, pumpkin seeds, avocados walnuts and their oils. Buy oils with labels that read "organic" and "100 percent expeller-pressed." Low glycemic fruits include apples, cherries and grapefruit. An Introduction to Doug Kaufmann and the Fungal Theory of Disease

With a name like Campaign for Real Health, you can be certain we are interested only in real causes and real solutions without which “real health” is only a wish. In this regard, Doug Kaufmann of “Know the Cause” fame is a kindred spirit. We are pleased to introduce you to Doug and his work.Doug
But first, we at this site are deeply skeptical of what might be considered dubious, or false causes and false solutions, such as the cholesterol myth, the vaccine  “is always safe and is always the key to disease prevention” myth and the “sugar is OK but red meat is always bad” myth of conventional thinking, among many others  This last one was driven home to me by an older lady friend of mine who had just completed standard medical breast cancer treatment. Her physician told her to stay away from red meat but that there would be no problem with her eating sugar.  Such advice is truly ignorant of the benefits of properly raised, grass-finished beef, and the devastating consequences of introducing refined sugars into the body. Here’s a hint: the one — grass fed beef — is an omega 3-rich food that is good for inflammation while helping to boost the immune system and –  as you will read below — can even kill fungi, while the other — sugar — helps cancer grow, increases arterial plaque, and dampens the immune system for hours after its ingestion. It also feeds fungus. Perfect segue, so let’s get on to Doug Kaufmann of “Know the Cause” his fungal theory of disease — and I believe, a genuine REAL step in the direction of REAL health.
Doug Kaufmann is a man on a mission. To that end he hosts the increasingly popular daily television program, “Know the Cause,” a show on health and wellness. But the show isn’t your average health program. It has a twist:  the “cause” in Know the Cause is “fungus” and Doug’s mission is to educate as many people as will listen that fungus, is behind more human illness than most people — layman and scientist — have ever imagined.
He makes a very compelling case for fungus in nearly every disease imaginable from cancer to heart disease,  hypothyroidism to multiple sclerosis. Now, he’s careful not to implicate every case of such diseases as being fungal in nature but he often comes close to doing so and he has turned this initially skeptical viewer into a confirmed FUPO-head (Fungus Until Proven Otherwise). Let’s learn more.
What is “Know the Cause?”
Doug’s daily TV show has been on since 1998 and has featured some of the most prominent names in nutrition and health care as it stresses  the importance of diet, exercise, and safe alternatives to the often deadly approaches offered by conventional medicine. But it’s not just the safe alternative modalities he stresses, for many preach these concepts. It is the fungal theory of disease that truly sets Doug Kaufmann apart.  He frequently holds in his hand and quotes from scientific tomes on medical mycology (mycology being the branch of biology dealing with fungi) from decades ago that implicate the lowly fungus in disease. But as Doug is constantly pointing out, in the medical world, bacteria rules while fungi, by comparison, are mostly completely ignored. A tragic mistake of colossal proportions to the health of many if his theory of fungal causation is correct. To compound the problem, antibiotics are mycotoxins — fungal derivatives. They cause fungal overgrowth. Translation: if many — and we mean MANY — diseases are fungal in origin and nature, then the vast overuse of antibiotics is causing an incalculable amount of serious illness. And it goes without saying that those illnesses are not being treated as the fungal illnesses they are.
(And please note that above we said “overuse.” Antibiotics, judiciously used, have their place and can be absolutely lifesaving. Their use should always be followed by pro-biotic supplementation to re-seed the good flora in the digestive tract in order to boost natural immunity.  Seventy to Eighty percent of the immune system resides in the digestive tract. Antibiotics wipe out the bad and the good. The good must be replaced so that B-vitamins can again be made by the good flora, to prevent bad flora from opportunistically re-asserting themselves wreaking havoc all over again, and to help prevent fungal overgrowth resulting from the antibiotic itself  the latter of which is a common problem and a key to understanding the fungal theory of disease).
As we noted earlier, Know the Cause has as its guests many interesting and prominent professionals from the worlds of alternative medicine and nutrition.  As an example, one of the most intriguing guests Doug has featured is Dr. T. Dr. Simoncini has shared video with Doug’s audience of cancer inside the body, demonstrating how it is white, not black, and explaining why this is so. The great thing about this show, in my personal view, is it gives viewers an uncomplicated, easy to understand “common sense” approach to illness — both prevention and cure. Something that viewers not trained in the medical fields can easily wrap their heads around and do for themselves.  No mysterious, complicated terminology available only to the initiated brotherhood of priests, er um, doctors. Simple language, straightforward practical information offered by one of the most down to earth guys you might ever hope to come across. But don’t get the wrong impression from his easy to understand, folksy style; there is a profound body of substance in what he says. Indeed, it is testimony to the truly scientific nature of Doug’s work that doctors are calling HIM!
Who is Doug Kaufmann?
So, who is he? A biographical sketch on him reads as follows:*
After graduation from Hospital Corps “A” School, Kaufmann worked in Respiratory Therapy and in the operating room at The San Diego Naval Hospital. He was ordered to Vietnam in 1970 and was attached to The Seventh Marine Division, where he was a field corpsman. Upon returning to the USA in 1971, he became ill. While working at USC Medical School, the mystery surrounding the illness would be unraveled, enabling full recovery for Kaufmann without the recommended prescriptions.
Thirty-six years later, many thousands of loyal television viewers enjoy learning about this still relevant discovery and how it might impact their health. Much occurred in the early years that convinced Kaufmann that he needed to teach this lifesaving information to physicians. Few listened, so his plans changed. The new mission was to educate the consumers of healthcare…we, the people.
In 1987, Kaufmann relocated his family to Dallas Texas at the request of several physicians who were familiar with his discovery. A few years into this relocation, a local radio station requested that Kaufmann begin broadcasting his different approach to health on their station and offered free time each Saturday. This 30-minute show was quickly enhanced to 3 full hours as its popularity (YOUR HEALTH MATTERS) grew into several large markets. His Show, KNOW THE CAUSE, expounds upon his decades old discovery and continues to teach the importance of disease prevention. The show has won three “Telly” awards.
Kaufmann has published seven books dealing with the discovery. He has lectured throughout America and writes extensively.
What does Doug teach?
You read a general introduction to Doug’s theory above. But now, let’s take a look at his ideas in his own words. At his website, linked at the very top of this post, can be found a video of Doug speaking called “Fungus 101.” Here is a transcript of that three minute video.
” Welcome to Mycology or Fungus 101. Fungi are ubiquitous organisms. Most are non-toxic. Out of over 1,000,000 out there, about 400 are found to be pathogenic to man. That means they can get inside our bodies and cause disease. Older medical textbooks, those in the 1920’s and 1930’s, talked about farmers working in the dirt, cutting themselves, and the fungi would gain access to the heart, and would mimic a heart attack when in fact it’s a mycotoxin induced heart attack.
What do we mean? Fungi emit a poison. It’s a biochemical process. They make a poison called a mycotoxin. Mycotoxins are intimately linked in serious disease in man – infertility, heart disease, chronic sinusitis, and the list just goes on and on. That’s why the show, Know the Cause, was necessary. Once these mycotoxins get inside your bloodstream, and they can even get into the nucleus of a cell, and cause a break in the DNA. Once they are inside, how do we get rid of them? The medical textbooks talk about starving it, go on a diet that fungus doesn’t eat because fungus can become a parasite of man. Take those foods, the sugars, the grains, the alcohol, etc. that fungus needs, out of your diet. Eat the foods fungus don’t like – broccoli and kale and some of these cruciferous vegetables and even meat, can kill these fungi. They just don’t like them and they don’t want to starve to death. So what you begin craving might be because you have a fungal condition and fungi are always the dominant partner in a human-fungal cell relationship.
Second, kill the fungus. Doctors have very potent anti-fungals: Diflucan, Sporanox, Lamicil, Nizoral. But remember one thing: there are thousands of antibiotics so that’s why physicians really learn in medical school is about bacteria, not much about fungi. There are safe and natural anti-fungals from olive leaf extract to caprylic acid to many many things. Vitamin C is an anti-fungal, amino acids are anti-fungal; fatty acids are anti-fungal, etc. So there are dozens of these you can find in a health food store.”
So, how does one deal with fungal overgrowth? Doug continually emphasizes three steps:

2. KILL THE FUNGUS OUTRIGHT. The prescriptive pharmaceutical agents Diflucan and Nystatin are frequently mentioned as powerful, sometimes necessary anti-fungals depending on the severity of the infection. Many completely safe natural over the counter anti-fungals can work well, too. Favorites are caprylic acid and olive leaf extract. Other typical naturals mentioned include grapefruit seed extract, oregano and 10 Undecenoic acid, among others. Emphasized is the importance of using one or two at a time on a rotating basis so that the fungus cannot adapt to any of them rendering them useless.
It is emphasized that BOTH steps — STARVING and KILLING the fungus must be undertaken at the same time and that the diet must be followed religiously for a period of time. Vigilance in both starving and killing the fungus is paramount.
3. SUPPORT THE IMMUNE SYSTEM with probiotics and beta glucan. (We can add exercise here, too. Doug lives and teaches exercise as a critical component of good health.)

I’ve had so many people come to me in hospitals in my hospital work through the years and show me the results of a camera being dropped down their throat and on the way down there are these white patches and YOU KNOW that’s candida albicans and if you ask a Doctor ‘…well uh that’s just a patch of oh, say chalk….’ OK Doc but I didn’t eat chalk ‘…Well grumble grumble…’ Nothing ceases to amaze me anymore in science, but that white is more than likely monilia growing in a damp, warm space. They are only interested in seeing whats in the belly. Why? What’s in the belly should be a fermenting vat of mushrooms based on all the white that was all the way down. So people have come to me and shown me their pictures and they’re excited. THEY KNOW MORE THAN THE DOCTOR! They come to you at the hospital and say ‘…look at this. The doctor didn’t even say anything. Look at this, Doug. It’s white. There are white spots. Yeah. It’s yeast. He didn’t know…’
(In describing the reason for his workout routine): “I want to prevent disease, but almost more importantly, I want to prevent doctor visits. Because I contend that doctor visits lead to disease. I think doctors (who are nice guys) put you on medicines (that are FDA approved) but that have HORRIBLE side effects…(continues, now quoting a writer, non-verbatim, in JAMA — and for which she got in trouble a few years back) she said that doctors are now the third leading cause of death in America. She said, cancer, heart disease, then doctors. So my goal is to prevent doctor visits into my 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s.”
(On localized problems, ear, nose, etc) “We tend to think when something’s wrong here we need a “here-ologist. When something’s wrong here we need an ear-ologist.  And I’m telling you, what goes awry, physiologically in the human body, has more to do with your gut than you can ever, ever imagine.” If you put the right food into your body in the first place you can prevent and help clear up localized issues. It’s amazing how if you put lighter fluid in a diesel Mercedes, the car never blows up — it just stops because you’ve put the wrong petrol in it. If you put diesel fuel those engines go 300,000-400,ooo miles. Why don’t we understand that same thing? We are all better than Mercedez Benses and we’re all squirting lighter fluid into our bodies.”
(Regarding Ezekiel products — high quality whole grains) “Grain is grain. Even whole grains. Here is your worry: ‘…but Doug, my dietitian, my nutritionist, my doctor, my dentist says the human body must have grains in order to thrive…’ If that’s true, then I’m not alive and I’m not thriving. That’s a FALLACY that you must have grains in order to thrive.
(As to whether fungus survives the cooking processs as in grains and corn — both known to be ALWAYS fungally infested): “The answer is no. And that’s surprising to most people. But, fungus is probably not the problem. What fungus makes as a natural biochemical process, the mycotoxins — are heat stable. To the best of my knowledge, you can’t microwave or autoclave these mycotoxins away. Mycotoxins are heat stable. Fungus you can cook out when you cook the pasta. So if there’s no fungus there, you won’t be making the mycotoxins which is a good thing. But if mycotoxins have already impregnated the food, then  you’ve got problems.” ***
